1.2 Time Management and organizing activities

Classes are only 40 minutes duration and they have break between two periods. It is very important to check the time so that the students could still enjoy their break. To manage my time well, I always give time checks and time limits when doing activities. I also plan out the time on my lesson plan by organizing each part of my lesson. With this, I can deliver an effective and efficient lesson with my students.

1.3 Problem-solving

The lesson I commonly taught was grammar. The lesson itself is highly objective and is systematized with official rules of grammar. I inculcate higher order thinking skills in delivering my lessons in order to render better application of the skill.

For an example was during my lesson about future sentences using “will.” After giving them drills on how to properly make future sentences using “will,” I let the students answer thought-provoking questions, and they have to answer applying the knowledge of the lesson. One question was “What do you think you will become 10 years from now?” and the students will answer through an essay.

1.4 Classroom Management

I was teaching English in 7th grade. Considering the age range of my students, I expected that they tend to become aggressive at times, and are full of energy. With this observation, I planned ahead engaging and interactive activities for them to enjoy while learning, and rules to keep order inside the classroom.

My classroom rule was RESPECT. The rule was very simple and easy to understand. I wanted to inject a systematized procedure when I teach, and how to do it better by letting everyone respect each other. Whenever the classroom gets out of hand, I simply stand in the middle and raise my hand. With this, the students will stay silent and that’s the time when I will remind them of the rule. Whenever I ask “What’s my rule again?” the students would shout “RESPECT,” reminding them to respect one another and me as their teacher.

1.5 My overall impression in teaching

Teaching is never an easy job. I have instilled that in my mind since day 1. Even though the task is hard, I always remind myself to see the bigger picture. I always remind myself of my students’ future.

Yes, it is never easy but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it. I have found my solace and purpose in teaching. Seeing my students learn and enjoy learning are enough for me to forget my worries and stress of teaching. The process is grueling, but it is definitely a journey I would be happy to partake in.
